International Seminar: Diversity and On-Demand Audiovisual Services
On October 23, 24, and 25, the International Seminar “Diversity and On-Demand Audiovisual Services” will be held at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. This event, organised by the Audiovisual Diversity research group with the support of the Faculty of Humanities, Communication and Documentation (FHCD-UC3M), the University Institute of Spanish Cinema (IUCE-UC3M), the Latin American Observatory of Media Regulation and Convergence (Observacom) and the Laboratoire d’Excellence ‘Cultural industries and artistic creation’ (LabEx ICCA, France), is part of the execution of the research entitled ‘Diversity and subscription video-on-demand audiovisual services (PID2019-109639RB-100)’, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities at the State Research Agency.
The seminar will bring together academics, industry professionals, and regulators from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss the promotion and protection of diversity in the audiovisual sector. Key topics will include the impact of video-on-demand service providers in Europe and Latin America, with a particular focus on U.S.-based transnational companies, along with the production and distribution of audiovisual works. This gathering aims to foster a critical dialogue on the influence of these industry players from both political-regulatory and socioeconomic perspectives.
During the event, members of the REBOOT Project (Reviving, Boosting, Optimising, and Transforming the Competitiveness of European Cinema) will present preliminary findings from their research. They will participate in a roundtable discussion that examines the relationship between European cinema and streaming audiovisual services.
