Dr. Apostolos Samaras, senior researcher, participated in the 6th Conference on Cultural and Creative Industries, held in Patras on December 6-7, 2024. As part of the panel on “Music and Audiovisual Industries,” Dr. Samaras delivered a presentation titled “Competitiveness” and “Cultural Diversity” in EU Policies for the Audiovisual Sector, offering insights into the evolving policy landscape of the European audiovisual industry.

His presentation examined the interplay between economic competitiveness and cultural diversity in EU policymaking, highlighting the challenges posed by digital platforms and rapid technological advancements. He also discussed how EU policies navigate the delicate balance between economic growth and the preservation of cultural diversity in the film and audiovisual sectors.

The data presented was drawn from the report Competitiveness in European Law (Psychogiopoulou, Samaras, Comerma, Vlassis, Riga), conducted within the framework of the REBOOT project. Dr. Samaras’ contribution to the conference underscored the importance of research-driven policy recommendations in shaping the future of the European audiovisual sector.
