REBOOT at the Locarno Film Festival: Rethinking financing strategies for independent film in Europe

At this year's Locarno Film Festival, REBOOT was part of a timely discussion during the round table "Public Meets Private: Rethinking Financing Strategies for Independent Film in Europe."

Marina Rossato, representing the REBOOT project, joined a panel of industry professionals to share how REBOOT's research contributes to ongoing debates about the future of film financing in Europe. Drawing on project findings, Rossato explored the current challenges and strengths of the European Film Industry (EFI) and how these can inform more sustainable and inclusive financing models.

Her presentation highlighted one of REBOOT's key insights, the central role of public funding in supporting European cinema's cultural and creative vitality. As Rossato noted, any conversation about attracting private investment must build upon this foundation, ensuring that public mechanisms continue to safeguard cultural diversity and artistic independence.
